Cindy Thompson is the founder of Divorce Planning Solutions LLC, an independent fee-only planning firm serving divorcing families throughout New York. Thompson is dedicated to working with divorcing individuals, couples and their advisors to better understand the financial implications of divorce. Her guiding principle is to help those ending their marriages gain a clear understanding of their past, present and prospective financial situation and options.

Armed with that knowledge, clients may develop a stronger, better-informed foundation upon which to plan their futures. She also advises with individuals and or couples who are have serious financial questions and conflicts, but may have not yet decided whether they will be seeking dissolution of their marriage.

Thompson is a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst (CDFA™), and candidate for the Certified Financial Planner ® designation from the American College of Financial Planning. As Co-Director of the Greater New York Chapter of the ADFP, she works with colleagues and allied professionals to promote increased awareness and use of financial experts in the divorce process.

A collaborative neutral financial analyst trained in the collaborative law model, Thompson is a member of the International Association of Collaborative Professionals and the Association of Collaborative Professionals of New York.

Also a member of the Institute for Divorce Financial Analysts, Thompson meets her clients “where they are.” The tasks at hand can be simple as giving help with basic financial data gathering, organizing or budgeting to, for example, more complicated analysis of various settlement options they and their attorneys are considering.

After earning her BS from Stanford University and Masters of Business Administration from Harvard University, Thompson began helping families manage their estates and assets in trust administration. She has 18 years’ financial advisory and investment experience with firms such as Smith Barney and Donaldson, Lufkin, Jenrette. Dedicated to providing clients with clear, rigorous, sophisticated, practical and creative financial guidance, Divorce Planning Solutions LLC strives to help its clients navigate the often mystifying and stressful divorce process.

An expert champion for the entire divorcing family, a seasoned financial professional and single parent, Thompson also serves as financial educator and resource for selected non-profit organizations.
